The combination of black and orange is so closely associated with Halloween that it's rarely seen outside of October. This custom can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain. Observed every November 1 in what is now modern-day Ireland, it marked the end of the harvest season and the start of winter. Black represented the "death" of summer, while orange symbolized the autumn harvest season. Read More HERE

A Haunting Tale: Just Who Was This Crane Guy?

🎩👻🐴🎃

Ichabod Crane is the main character in Washington Irving's famous short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was first published in 1820.

Set in a Dutch settlement called Sleepy Hollow, located near Tarrytown, New York, the story is a blend of American folklore and Gothic fiction.

Ichabod Crane is described as a lanky and superstitious schoolteacher who comes to Sleepy Hollow to teach children and earn a living. He is highly educated but somewhat awkward in appearance, with long limbs, a small head, and a penchant for believing in ghost stories and the supernatural.

Despite his position as a teacher, Ichabod is somewhat greedy and ambitious. He dreams of winning the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the beautiful and wealthy daughter of a prosperous farmer, to secure a better future for himself.

However, Ichabod faces a rival for Katrina's affections—Brom Bones, a local hero known for his physical strength and mischievous personality. Brom doesn't like Ichabod and uses both pranks and intimidation to thwart Ichabod's attempts to win Katrina over.

The climax of the story occurs one fateful night when Ichabod attends a party at the Van Tassel home, where ghost stories are told, including the legend of the Headless Horseman—a ghostly figure said to be the spirit of a Hessian soldier who lost his head to a cannonball during the American Revolution. On his way home through the dark and eerie woods, Ichabod encounters what appears to be the Headless Horseman, who chases him down and seemingly hurls his decapitated head at him.

The next morning, Ichabod has disappeared, leaving behind only his hat and a smashed pumpkin. While some villagers believe he was spirited away by the Horseman, others suspect that Brom Bones may have orchestrated the event to scare Ichabod away for good.

What truly became of Ichabod Crane that fateful night? Only the shadows and whispers of Sleepy Hollow hold the answer... 🌲🌙🖤
