Night Hacks: Tips for After-Hours
Whether you’re burning the midnight oil or just love the quiet hours after dark, these quick hacks will help you stay sharp, productive, and relaxed when the world sleeps.
Tonight’s Focus: We are a Snacking Nation
Here are some great midnight snacks that won’t keep you up by disturbing your sleep:
Almonds: These are packed with magnesium, which can help relax muscles and improve sleep quality. Plus, they provide a healthy source of protein and fat that won’t spike your blood sugar.
Bananas: They contain potassium and magnesium, both of which promote muscle relaxation. The natural sugars also give a small energy boost without causing a sugar crash.
Oatmeal: A small bowl of plain oatmeal provides fiber and complex carbs that can satisfy hunger without causing a sugar spike, plus it contains melatonin-boosting properties.
Greek Yogurt: High in protein and low in sugar, it’s a great option for a light snack. The calcium it contains also aids in melatonin production.
Turkey Slices: Turkey contains tryptophan, an amino acid that helps the body produce serotonin and melatonin, making it easier to relax and fall asleep.
Cottage Cheese: Another high-protein option, cottage cheese is low in carbs and won't disturb your blood sugar. It also contains tryptophan for better sleep.
Cherries or Tart Cherry Juice: Cherries are one of the few natural sources of melatonin, making them a perfect nighttime snack.
Hummus and Veggies: The protein in hummus, combined with the fiber in vegetables like carrots or cucumber, provides a satisfying snack that won’t keep you up.
These snacks are easy to digest and contain nutrients that promote better sleep rather than interfere with it. We tried really hard to find something that said a pint of Ben & Jerry’s was the secret to great sleep, but sadly, science just wouldn’t back us up on that one. We’re just as disappointed as you are.
